Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get started?
Call or email Speech, Language and Literacy, LLC at beth@speechlanguageliteracyict.com or 316.204.1608, and you will speak with Beth Barrett directly to determine if your child would benefit from an evaluation and/or therapy services.
Do you accept insurance?
Speech, Language, and Literacy, LLC does not bill insurance companies directly. We will provide you with a superbill as a statement services provided. You can submit the superbill on your own behalf for reimbursement if covered by your personal health care plan. We recommend you contact your insurance provider prior to beginning services to check your personal benefits.
How long does therapy take?
Lots of families ask this question. I wish I had a specific answer. Every child is different and responds to therapy differently. While I can’t give you specific timelines to reach goals, I can tell you what provides the most timely proficient outcomes: therapy twice a week, working purposefully 15 to 20 minutes a day, reading every day, and incorporating the strategies into a child’s everyday life.
What documentation do you provide?
I provide an evaluation report initially and daily notes thereafter every time I see your child. I also provide videos (with your consent) to explain homework or show you great things your child and I are doing together in therapy. This is a confidence builder for children to show their parents their progress and hard work.
My child gets services at school, can we also do private speech therapy?
Yes, many children benefit from additional one-on-one therapy in addition to the therapy they receive at school. I welcome collaborating with other professionals your child is working with.
Is an evaluation required prior to services beginning?
Yes, although if your child has received an evaluation within the last three months and you can provide the testing results, the evaluation will require less time.
What is your attendance/cancellation policy?
The real world happens. As a mom, I understand this. Kids get sick and conflicts come up and there will be times when it is necessary to cancel last minute. I request a 24-hour notice for cancellations. If last-minute cancellations happen repeatedly, I will work with you to pick a different therapy time for a better fit. Cancellations made without a 24-hour notice or no-shows will be charged the full session fees.
What ages do you work with and where are services provided?
4 to around the age of 12. Services are located at The Waterfront near 13th and Webb at 1720 N. Webb Road, Suite 110 in Wichita. I prefer in-person therapy but will consider teletherapy should special circumstances arise.
Is there a difference between a speech therapist and speech-language pathologist?
No! We are one and the same. The "pathologist" part of our more professional terms refers to our ability to evaluate and diagnose speech, language, literacy, pragmatic, voice, swallowing, and feeding disorders or delays. Many people refer to themselves as speech therapists to keep it simple.
